Standard Bank Group and ICBC Celebrate Ten Years of their Successful Partnership

  标准银行集团有限公司(下称“标准银行”)与中国工商银行股份有限公司(下称“工商银行”)日前庆祝建立战略合作伙伴关系十周年。双方重申将继续深化扩展合作伙伴关系,携手推进中非贸易、投资和增长。

Standard Bank Group Limited (“Standard Bank”) and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited (“ICBC”) are celebrating the ten-year anniversary of their strategic partnership. The two banks have reaffirmed their commitment to expand their partnership to further accelerate China-Africa trade, investment and growth opportunities.

  标准银行是非洲资产规模最大的银行,2008年,工商银行以55亿美元收购标准银行20%战略性股权,从而建立起战略合作伙伴关系。该交易当时是金额最大的中国公司境外投资项目,时至今日仍是最大的中非单一投资交易。

The strategic partnership between the world’s and Africa’s biggest bank by assets was formed in 2008 when ICBC acquired a 20% stake in Standard Bank for US$ 5.5 billion. The deal was at the time the largest foreign investment in value terms made by a Chinese company. It still represents the single biggest China-Africa investment.

  自从建立战略合作伙伴关系以来,双方已为非洲约40个中资公司项目提供总值85亿美元的融资支持,涉及投资金额超过200亿美元。

Since their partnership was established, the two banks have provided US$ 8.5 billion in financing support for approximately 40 projects in Africa involving Chinese companies, leveraging investment of more than US$ 20 billion.

The two banks now almost always form part of the same lending syndicate for China-Africa financing deals. In 2016 and 2017 alone, the two partners together closed 13 deals in Africa amounting to over US$ 2 billion.

The Coca-Cola Company announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Costa Limited, which was founded in London in 1971 and has grown to become a major coffee brand across the world.

Costa ranks as the leading coffee company in the United Kingdom and has a growing footprint in China, among other markets. Costa operations include a leading brand, nearly 4,000 retail outlets with highly trained baristas, a coffee vending operation, for-home coffee formats and Costa’s state-of-the-art roastery.

  此次从其母公司韦博得集团收购咖世家的估价为51亿美元。该收购将为可口可乐公司带来遍布欧洲、亚太、中东和非洲的强大咖啡业务平台,及未来发展潜力。

The acquisition of Costa from parent company Whitbread PLC is valued at $5.1 billion and will give Coca-Cola a strong coffee platform across parts of Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, with the opportunity for additional expansion.

For Coca-Cola, the expected acquisition adds a scalable coffee platform and expands the existing Coca-Cola coffee lineup by adding another leading brand and platform. The portfolio already includes the market-leading Georgia brand in Japan, plus coffee products in many other countries.

Honeywell advances connected business in China

  霍尼韦尔日前在苏州举办以“至联致远”为主题的2018霍尼韦尔中国智能工厂巡礼活动。

Themed “The power of Connected”, the 2018 Honeywell China Connected Plant Tour was successfully held in Suzhou.

  从1999年建厂以来,霍尼韦尔传感与生产力解决方案苏州工厂已经成为公司集制造、研发、服务于一体的传感与生产力解决方案全球中心。从2008年至2017年,工厂产量实现了三倍增长。

Since 1999 when the plant was established, Honeywell Sensing and Productivity Solutions (S&PS) Plant in Suzhou has already become the global S&PS center within Honeywell that integrates manufacturing, R&D and service. From 2008 to 2017, the output of the plant has increased by three times.

From 2004 to 2017, Honeywell’s revenue in China has increased by 6 times. China has become the single largest market for Honeywell outside the U.S., presenting the company with the best opportunity for growth.

To speed up connected business in China, Honeywell Connected Enterprise was founded last year. As the first regional team outside the U.S. market, it reflects company’s strategic focus on China industrial internet market.

In 2017, approximately 1.5 billion U.S. dollars sales revenue came from connected software solutions, while over 1 billion U.S. dollars coming from connected hardware. There are more than 75 key Connected software offerings across all enterprises.

  文凭不再是招聘门槛

Diploma is no longer a threshold for recruitment

  据Quartz报道,最近求职网站Glassdoor罗列了15家招聘时不要求有大学文凭的公司,其中就包括苹果、谷歌和IBM等高薪科技公司,还有好市多、星巴克和Chipotle等服务型企业。

Recently, the job review site Glassdoor compiled a list of 15 different companies that don’t require job applicants to have college degrees. The list includes high-paying tech outlets like Apple, Google, and IBM, in addition to service-oriented companies like Costco, Starbucks, and Chipotle.

  在安永会计师事务所弃用大学文凭这一录用条件后,该事务所的人才招聘管理合伙人玛吉·史迪威尔向《赫芬顿邮报》表示:“公司在招聘时仍会考虑学历,在对应聘者进行总体评估时,学历仍然是重要的考量因素,但不再是招录的一道门槛。”

“Academic qualifications will still be taken into account and indeed remain an important consideration when assessing candidates as a whole, but will no longer act as a barrier to getting a foot in the door,” Maggie Stilwell, Ernst and Young’s managing partner for talent, told the Huffington Post when that company dropped the requirement.

  换言之,公司将招聘经验和能力最适合某个职位的人。未来,被录用的应聘者中很多拥有大学学位,有些则没有。

In other words:Companies will hire the candidates whose experience and skills best suit them for the job. Many of those successful applicants will have university degrees. Some of them will not.

  这并不意味着大学学位就没有用。对许多人而言,大学里可以获得雇主看重的技能。但自动筛除那些通过另一种途径获得相同知识的人,却会产生反效果。

It’s not that college degrees are useless. For many people, university is the place where they acquire skills employers value. But automatically discounting people who earn that same knowledge through a different path can be counterproductive.

  谷歌公司曾坦言,大学成绩单和考试成绩并不能用来预测日后的工作表现。只有刚毕业的大学生例外,但即使是这些人,大学成绩和工作表现之间也没有太多关联。IBM公司美国总部新招聘的人约有15%没有大学学位,首席执行官金尼·罗梅蒂表示,对于许多技术岗位而言,专业培训课程和在职经历比四年的大学学历更有用。

Google acknowledged that college trans and test scores are worthless predictors of later job performance. The only exceptions were very recent graduates, and even then the correlation was weak. At IBM, where roughly 15% of new hires in the US don’t have college degrees, CEO Ginni Rometty has said that vocational courses and on-the-job experience offer more relevant training for many tech sector positions than a four-year college degree.
